Pre-Departure Checklist
Before you set off, take a moment to go through these essential safety steps:
1. Keep your mobile phone switched on loud, In case of an emergency, you must be contactable.
2. Know where the safety equipment is stored – Life jackets, emergency gear, and other essentials are onboard. Make sure you are familiar with their locations.
Returning to the Jetty
When returning, follow these steps to dock safely:
- Ensure all passengers are seated – This helps maintain balance and prevents any accidents.
- Approach the jetty slowly – Keep the front of the boat facing the jetty for a controlled arrival.
- Listen to instructions from our crew – Our team will guide you in to ensure a safe and smooth docking process.
Emergency Procedures
Engine Failure
- Drop anchor immediately to prevent drifting.
- Call our emergency number for assistance.
Man Overboard (MOB)
In the event of someone falling overboard:
- Stop the boat immediately.
- Turn around carefully but do not reverse.
- Turn upwind to approach the person safely.
- Recover the MOB on the windward side to prevent injury from the boat.
Fire
Remember the PASS acronym
- Pull - the safety pin
- Aim - the nozzle at the fire
- Squeeze - the trigger you removed from the pin
- Sweep - at the base of the fire
Grounding
If you run aground please follow the below steps.
- If possible, identify the deep water around you.
- Trim the engine up and attempt to reverse towards the deep water.
- If you are unsure, immediately call the emergency number.
- Do not force the steering wheel when on a sandbank.
General Boating Rules
To ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water, please adhere to the following rules:
- Speed Limit – Maintain a maximum speed of 5 knots in all built-up areas.
- Stay on the Right – Boats must drive on the right-hand side of the channel.
- Watch for Navigation Marks – Always be aware of markers and follow them carefully.
- Avoid Shallow Areas & Sandbars – If unsure, stay towards the centre of the channel.
- No Ocean Access – Our vessels are not permitted beyond the estuary into open ocean waters.
- No Smoking – Smoking is strictly prohibited on all boats.
- Respect Wildlife – Keep at least 100 metres away from dolphins at all times.
- Keep Limbs Inside – For safety, do not dangle hands, feet, or any objects overboard.
- No Climbing on the Roof – Climbing on the roof is strictly prohibited and may result in fines.
